Spread the word

It has been pointed out repeatedly, often by shouting, that random strangers are not going to be inclined to by computers from two random guys. Soo, in the mean time while we are working on a strategy to reach the random customer, I’m calling in the reserves. You all know people and I’m sure those people know people. I’m not asking for door to door work, just drop a few hints and keep your ears open. I’m curious to see what turns up, it might be nothing and then again, it might be something.

Your friendly neighborhood computer building guy.

Dude…

… your not getting a Dell. Three systems. Fast, well equiped and we’re willing to bet it will make your friends realize that it isn’t all about the Pentiums.

The middle one would hopfully be the most interesting. But I figured if people wanted to spend less or more we should have an option. Add in the various dorm necessities which Tim already documented and we’ve got something. I hope. :)

I agree (finally) that the Asus you suggjested should go in the first two. The only thing holding that back is if we can find a socket 939 Mobo that is cheaper and even then it would only work on the middle and high end and only then if we can get 939 64s to go in them. Assuming the middle is around 1449 or so, the low could come in at 1199 perhaps and the high could be 1799? Does that seem reasonable? I dropped the Semperon because the 3100 was about as fast as the 2800 64 go figure.

Computer Rambling

I didn’t really have much to do while I was in the lab on Monday so I decided to work up some computer specs to keep busy. I never got around to posting them. I broke things up into 5 levels and assigned a numbering scheme. I hadn’t thought much about price, cause that is no fun. So I just went off Dell’s pricing levels, minus their rebates. Their cheap systems pain me, actually all their systems pain me, but that is another story. I’ll put the prices next to the systems, I’ve not thought about them much so I wouldn’t be surprised if one of you discovered some reason why they won’t work. I suspect they might be a tad high. Damn you Michael Dell.

On a side note I’ve discovered I have a love hate relationship with this sort of stuff. I love planing, building and owning this sort of stuff. However, if I spend to much time looking at outrageous equipment I get a bit depressed knowing that chances are I’ll probably never own whatever random bit of technology I was looking at. Did I mention that I’m getting a new cell phone this weekend? Heheh. :)

Alright, enough of that! Go find somebody to buy a computer so I can feed my addiction!
